BackgroundMyra Lawson-Tjularta (1951-) is a highly regarded aboriginal painter residing in Western Australia. She has been a prolific artist for over 15 years. She won the Leonora Art Prize in both 1993 and 1996. Most of her works are held in private collections throughout Australia. Her works have been in many shows and are also on display in Government House, Perth Australia, and the Lindsay Street Gallery (Newcastle Australia Museum of Art), among others. Myra’s tribe was one of the last in the Gibson Desert to be contacted by European settlers. She saw her first Caucasian when she was 14 years old. |
